We returned to Cairo today to fly home, the desert sand still in the seams of our clothes and, in some way, our hearts.
Egypt has been a journey across millennia- pharaohs, pyramids, river villages, temples, and fossils in the desert. It has shown us grandeur and simplicity, noise and silence, eternity and the fleeting moment.
How do I possibly sum up everything this trip has meant to me? It feels like a tapestry woven from every part of who I am.
Part childhood dream finally realised, touching the stones and stories I’ve imagined since I was small.
Part history buff, indulging the pure joy of being in a place I’ve loved academically since uni.
Part history teacher, standing inside the very sites I’ve spent years teaching about and feeling them breathe with life and come alive under my feet.
Part much-needed break, a chance to step out of my own world and reset.
Part precious time with Josh, sharing wonder, laughter and the occasional moment of chaos.
Part accidental fashion influencer, swanning around Egypt in Camilla and colours inspired by her Egypt travels.
And part seeing how the other half travel, because this was definitely not a Trip-a-Deal adventure cost wise – it was something far more unhurried, generous and extravagant.
Somehow all of these pieces came together in a way I still can’t fully explain… only that I feel changed, expanded, and deeply grateful.
What we carry now isn’t just memory.
It’s perspective.
We travelled to see history.
We leave understanding time.
Until the next adventure.
